Small Business Grants Award List Available
A new database of small business grant awards to Arkansas small businesses is now available. The database lists small businesses awarded either a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant or a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant. Grant awards range from $42,750 to $750,000.
While a total of 24 SBIR/STTR small business grants were awarded in FY2003, the number of grants awarded in FY2004 decreased to 14.
The Arkansas Science and Technology Authority (ASTA) operates an SBIR awareness program to help Arkansas-based businesses identify federal funds available through SBIR programs at 11 federal agencies. The Authority disseminates information on SBIR, including presolicitation notices, and helps business target proposals to the appropriate agencies for funding.
Mildred Holley, Technology Programs Manager for the Arkansas Small Business Development Center (SBDC), publishes a twice-a-month email newsletter, Tech Track. Tech Track provides announcements of recent SBIR and STTR grant solicitations and awards. While the newsletter is intended for Arkansas small businesses, the information is generally applicable to any small business in the United States. Tech Track is also available as an RSS 2.0 news feed.
The Arkansas SBDC website also provides a guide on how to write an SBIR grant proposal. Copies of successful SBIR grant applications are also available for download. The Arkansas SBDC also reviews SBIR grant proposals at no charge. (I know of one grant proposal that was recently returned as incomplete. Had the Arkansas SBDC reviewed that particular proposal, the obvious error would likely have been found.)
